Rio is absolutely fantastic!
The sightseeing was great, the Carnival at Sambadrome was a sensory overload, truly amazing… we managed 5 out of the 7 Samba Schools.
I started to flag around 4am so we headed back to the hotel. Loved the room at the Janeiro.
Rio is super slick with the whole organisation of bloc parties, the carnival, everything, it’s very impressive indeed.
We had a 2 day bloc party right outside our windows at the Janeiro to enjoy as well.
We had a sunny 4 hour drive to Paraty from Rio and stayed at the Pousada Paraty Literary Hotel which was very pretty and reminded me of trips to Bali.
Despite it being rather rainy everything was great, staff friendly and very helpful.
I really enjoyed a couple of 80 minute massages at the hotel too, bliss.
We seemed to be the only people enjoying the huge sitting room / library area while the rain fell and this was further improved by me winning at backgammon! On to amazing Iguazu where we had lots of lovely sunshine.
We stayed at the Belmond Das Cataratas which overlooks the Brazilian side of the falls.
We also had lunch at the Gran Melia on the day we did the Argentinian side of the falls. Marcelo, Chris and Vera were outstanding guides, knowledgeable, warm, friendly and people who genuinely seem to love their jobs which shone through.
