WWe have just returned from a fabulous 2-week holiday to Cuba planned by laterallife to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, and what a suitably special trip it was. Nick Matthews, the founder of laterallife, travelled to Cuba in 2024, and we decided to follow Nick’s precise route and what a route it turned out to be! Our grown-up children joined us for the first week which we spent in the amazing capital Havana and on the beach in spectacular Varadero. The second week was just the two of us exploring the island visiting historic Trinidad, Cienfuegos and lastly rural Vilanes. Cuba has some spectacular beaches like other Caribbean islands but so much more history, charm, culture and the friendliest and most spirited people too. It’s such a unique place and we experienced it all from cocktails to cigars, coffee to tobacco plantations, salsa and reggaeton dancing to boxing, politics to art, classic cars to electric bikes, Castro to Guevara, white beaches to incredible buildings and architecture, seafood to snorkelling – and shown it all by the best guides and hosts. If you want to just stay in expensive hotels on sandy beaches then go elsewhere – yes it can be raw but boy is it fun – we loved it. Big thanks from us both to laterallife.
