Our laterallife trip to Mexico was superb, with many highlights including Mérida, via the wonderful Chichen Itza; we enjoyed the town and loved Uxmal, our favourite Mayan archaeological site. Next stop was San Miguel de Allende, via Mexico City. What a place – no wonder it has been voted the world’s best small city several times and is a UNESCO World Heritage site (as is nearby Guanajuato, which is also wonderful). Amazing architecture and history, plus superb boutique hotels and restaurants. Finally, to Mexico City – and what a surprise and delight! We loved it: surprisingly green and unsurprisingly vibrant; superb museums and outstanding restaurants. But the highlight had to be the dawn balloon trip over the Teotihuacan pyramids, followed by a tour of them – magnificent! Throughout, we had excellent support on the ground with good drivers and very friendly and knowledgeable guides. The Mexicans could not have been more helpful and friendly – they really appreciate tourists who are interested in their history and culture, of which they’re very proud. If you haven’t been – go!
