We approached Nick about a year before my long-awaited sabbatical with little more than a vague idea of where we *didn’t* want to go and a very long list of logistical requirements (e.g., minimum luggage allowances, arrangements for independently travelling nearly grown teenagers, guaranteed availability of reliable wifi for A-level results day). The team delivered in spades with a 59-night itinerary travelling through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
Deirdre and I spent a month exploring the cultures and cuisines of mainland southeast Asia with every detail meticulously planned: transfers, private guides, reservations, and excursions were ready and waiting. All we had to do was show up. I hesitate to call out highlights for fear of missing one, but the personal tour of Angkor Wat, designed by our guide to allow us to appreciate the evolution of Khmer architecture and Buddhist cosmology building up to the grand reveal of the main temple complex was simply breathtaking.
The boys joined us in Singapore for a bit of a city break before we headed into Indonesia, setting the stage for more active adventures: scuba diving in Lombok, Komodo and Wakatobi (we all got certified on this trip and I am afraid we have now been ruined for diving anywhere else!), surfing and cycling in Bali, a river cruise in Borneo.
The laterallife team handled on-the-fly changes to flight itineraries (of which there were many, as the boys constantly fiddled with arrival and departure dates) with aplomb and the local ground crew dealt with every reasonable and unreasonable requests, from booking tee times to sourcing red filters for underwater photography.
We cannot wait to go back to the region and unreservedly recommend laterallife for anyone looking to put together a special trip.
