South American Sabbatical: Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia

We have recently returned from the most magical six week journey through the north east of Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia with our teenage children.

We cannot praise the laterallife team more highly. Our brief was to avoid the obvious and to go the extra mile for the authentic, not the luxurious.

From the first planning meeting, Nick’s expertise reassured us we were in good hands and that he “got” what we wanted.

The first thrilling leg of the journey took across the dunes at Jericoacoara in Brazil, then on to the splendour of volcanoes in the Ecuadorian Andes and wonder of the Amazon basin by the Napo River.

In Colombia we experienced its vibrant cities of Medellin, Bogotá and Cartagena, and the amazing beauty of the isolated pacific coast, where we saw whales at close quarters. Our journey ended with time spent on the idyllic Caribbean Island of Providencia.

The hotels, lodges and haciendas were perfectly judged and always full of character, and the guides on the ground were of the first order.

The logistical arrangements (there were many) ran like clockwork – a very impressive feat for South America!Aside from the knowledge of the destinations and organisational skills, the things that has struck us about laterallife is the individual care taken before, during and after the trip.

They spent the time to understand the brief and to plan (and re-plan) before the journey to get it just right – they were in touch during the trip, to check all was going well, not just if something went awry, and afterwards because they genuinely cared that we had a great time.

Quite simply Nick and the team made the trip the amazing experience that it was.
